Course Conditions Update

The course was snow covered for over 35 days this past winter. I was beginning to think we would never see the course again, but spring is finally here. We are currently cleaning up tree damage from the record snow falls as well as repairing washouts from the melt. Core aeration scheduled in the beginning of March for the greens at Hobbit's Glen was canceled. We decided to aerate the greens using needle tines rather than pull cores because the course was closed most of the winter reducing the need to relieve compaction. The needle tine process will go unnoticed but goes a long way to maintaining the health of the turf. The greens at Fairway Hills are older and require more core aeration. Greens aeration at Fairway Hills took place during the third week of March and was very successful. The bermuda grass looks to be in good shape and is set to green up as temperatures warm up. In fact, I have already seen new emerging leaves sporadically. The fairways were mowed from 7/8” to ½” recently in order to remove the dormant leaves. We will remain at this height throughout the season. The greens are in terrific shape. We have already resumed mowing and rolling on a regular basis.

We are excited to be back out on the course and look forward to seeing you out there.
