At Fairway Hills Golf Club you
will find a pristine course, lush green fairways, several bunkers filled
with the whitest of sand and exciting changes in elevation.
Designer Ron Pritchard carved this course through the Maryland timber.
He used the natural features of the site to create an unparalleled
golfing adventure. This par 70 golf course plays just over 6,100 yards
from the back tees. It has three par 5's and six par 3's. There are five
sets of tees for players of all levels including a set called “The
First Tee” for the youth participating in The First Tee Program.
Every hole here is a great experience, according to Joan Lovelace, Head
Professional and GM at Fairway Hills Golf Club. “A lot of players
look at the card and think because it's short that they're going to play
their all-time best round of golf and end up spending a lot of time in
the woods,” said Lovelace. “It's important to hit your driver well
everywhere, but particularly important here,” Lovelace added.
Your day will begin on a straightaway par 4 that plays 351 yards
from the back tees and 275 yards from the red tees. There's trees and
water to the left that shouldn't come into play.
“#1 is open from the tee with the landing area being the widest part of
the fairway. I like it when course designers cut players some
slack on the #1 tee box,” said Lovelace.
From
most of the tee boxes, you'll have to be accurate. You can use a driver
but less club is probably better off the tee. “Most golfers get on a
short golf course and know they should hit more three woods and three
irons from the tee, but end up hitting driver all day and that works out
well if you're hitting it straight, but if you're not… it can be a long
day!” Lovelace continued.

The front nine ends with a par three, 175 yards from the back
and 100 from the front that requires a solid approach to a sloping green that doesn't leave too many easy birdie putts.
#18 is a 522 from the back and 413 yard par five from the front
par five that offers the chance for a “birdie” coming home.
“This is a fun finishing hole. This is a birdie hole and everyone
has dreams of making birdie on the final hole to win a major. You won't
win a major here, but maybe you'll make a bird to beat a few of your
friends which is pretty fun too,” said Lovelace.
Message from the PGA and LPGA Head Golf Professional, Joan Lovelace:
“This is a straightforward golf course. It's there in front of
you, but that doesn't mean it's easy. We're most proud of the course
conditioning - the fairways and greens are flawless. Our Superintendent
deserves a lot of credit. He and his crew do an incredible job of
keeping the tees well groomed, the fairways are perfect and the greens
are super sweet. This is a beautiful golf course and I'm confident
you're going to love it.”
